Amazon Fire TV

On Wednesday, April 2, Amazon launched a new media streaming device dubbed Fire TV, taking on Roku 3, Apple TV and Google’s Chromecast in the race to become your portal for on-demand movies and television shows.

Game controllerGreat for gaming, too: There’s one thing the Amazon Fire TV has over its rivals is Amazon’s focus on video gaming–the Fire TV is capable of playing games! By combining the included remote with the new Amazon Fire Game Controller (an optional dedicated wireless game controller which costs about $40, sold separately), the Fire TV could potentially take on game consoles like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4!

What: Amazon Fire TV is a tiny internet-connected TV set-top box which uses voice search when you speak into the remote, will allow consumers to stream content from Amazon’s library (with Over 200,000 TV episodes and movies, millions of songs, and over a hundred games), as well as other video-on-demand services (Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc.) directly to their HDTVs.

Stream Your Favorite Tunes: If you love music, you’ll love the millions of songs available to stream to Amazon Fire TV through Pandora, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn. You can also access your entire Amazon MP3 library, so you can enjoy any albums and songs you’ve previously purchased from Amazon (coming soon). Exit to the home screen at any time and keep the music going while you share photos or play games–Fire TV will keep you updated with what’s playing each time a new song starts.

A Simple Remote: The Amazon Fire TV Remote is beautifully simple, with all the controls you need to search, watch, navigate, and even play games. It uses Bluetooth to connect to Fire TV so no line of sight is required, meaning no more reaching and stretching.

Top Seller in Electronics: As expected, the Amazon Fire TV now (April 8) occupies the #1 spot on Amazon’s Best Sellers Electronics list, which was previously held by Google’s Chromecast streaming stick.
