Black & Decker HH2455 HedgeHog Hedge Trimmer Review

Black & Decker HH2455The HH2455 HedgeHog is basically the discontinued Black and Decker HH2450 model, with a new swivel handle, which allows you to rotate the rear handle 180 degrees with five optional stops to provide added comfort while trimming vertically or sculpting.

PROS:

  • Low cost of ownership – Being corded, no battery cost involved.
  • Light weight 6.5 pounds means less fatiguing while performing large trimming jobs.
  • Very nice handle design with comfortable rubber grip.
  • Can rotate the handle to your desired position using buttons on either side; no worry of developing carpal tunnel (carpal canal).
  • Good safety features – The HH2455 HedgeHog Hedge Trimmer has a lock-on switch for continuous running, a lock-off switch to prevent accidental start, and a built-in cord retention system to avoid accidental unplugging.

CONS:

  • Corded means you’ve to deal with the hassle of electric power cord.
  • This electric hedge trimmer is recommended to be used within 100 feet from an electrical outlet using an extension cord. In other words, you should not trim farther than 100 feet from any electrical outlet. (Requires a good quality extension cord for the best power transfer to the trimmer. A 12-gauge cord is recommended in this case.)
  • Higher operating cost since it consumes electricity.

BOTTOM LINE:

Whether you’re planning to sculpt your hedges into elaborate designs, or just trimming them regularly to maintain a neat appearance, you’ll find the Black & Decker HH2455 HedgeHog Hedge Trimmer an excellent tool for the job (if you don’t mind the cord). The HedgeHog has been designed to maximize ease and comfort while minimizing fatigue.

But be aware, Black and Decker claims that it can cut through 3/4-inch thick. Yes, you can do it, but you’ll have to force your way through! The truth – HH2455 HedgeHog does possess sufficient power with its 3.3-amp motor and 24-inch blade to cut through branches up to 1/2-inch thick easily, but NOT so easily on 3/4-inch branches.

Caution! Keep children and pets (dogs & cats) out of garden when you’re operating this trimmer to avoid accidental tangling with the power cord.
