Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer Review

If there’s an entry-level elliptical trainer on the market that has some decent features of a high-end model, it will be the Schwinn 430 Elliptical Machine. With a high-end feel but a low-end price tag (about $600 on Nov. 19, 2014), this elliptical trainer is perfect for those who are looking to start low impact workout at home and get into shape or just becoming healthier.

One handy feature that this model includes is a USB port so that you can charge your tablet or mobile device. It also has an auxiliary port so you can play your iPod from the machine.

The Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer comes with speakers that are clear and loud and the cord needed to plug your iPod in is included with the machine. If you get too hot during your exercise routine, the elliptical also comes with a fan to help cool you down.

The fan has three different settings so you can turn it up or down depending on how you feel. The machine also comes with a water bottle holder so you don’t have to pause your workout and leave the machine when you’re thirsty.

The elliptical allows you to enter personal information like your height, age and gender. What this does is to help the machine to determine an exercise plan that’s specifically tailored for your body.

The LCD display lets you know what your heart rate is and lets you see what type of workout you’re doing, like cardiovascular or fat burning. The display also keeps track of your exercise goals and the progress that you’re making. A minor drawback here is that the LCD display is quite difficult to read.

This machine also has 22 programs, 2 user settings and goal tracking are all there to keep you motivated and challenged. The pre-programmed workouts differ in pattern. Worth mentioning, one of these pre-programmed workouts called “walk in the park” is interesting – it gives you the same workout experience as if you’re taking an actual walk around a park. Some of these pre-programmed workouts are smooth walking like you’re on a flat surface while other parts represent climbing uphill.

The stride on the elliptical is 20 inches (Precision Path™ Stride) and the footplates do have cushioning. The footplates also has a manual ramp range of 10 degrees and offer 6 different positions. The elliptical offers 20 levels of eddy current resistance (very rare for a machine at this price range) which allows you to push yourself as you grow more accustomed to working out on an exercise machine.

An internal speed, high inertia perimeter weighted flywheel keeps the machine running quietly and smoothly as you use it. At about 200 pounds in weight, the machine is very sturdy and has transport wheels that allow you to easily move the elliptical from one room to another.

The machine has moving handlebars so that you can work both your upper and lower body at the same time. It also has stationary handlebars if you want your main focus to be your lower body. The handlebars are angled so you can find a more comfortable position to hold them.

The maximum user weight capacity for the machine is 300 pounds and it comes with a ten year warranty on the frame. The front is weighted, which gives you a lot of balance when you’re using the machine.

Overall, the Schwinn 430 is an excellent elliptical machine for the price, if you don’t mind the rather hard-to-read LCD display.
